Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor of Huíla province for the Political, Economic and Social sector, Maria João Chipalavela, defended Tuesday in Lubango the urgency of expanding the network of tax offices, as a ‘priority measure’ to improve tax services and support the local business sector.
The statement was made during the meeting with the administrator of the General Tax Administration (AGT), Luís Sambo, who pointed out that there is currently only one representation in Matala, in addition to Lubango, in a province with 21 municipalities, which limits the efficiency of service and makes it difficult to collect tax revenues.
For these factors, Maria Chipalavela considered it ‘fundamental’ to expand the network of tax offices, to ensure greater proximity to taxpayers and relieve pressure on companies, many of which face difficulties in meeting obligations due to distance and scarcity of services.
The deputy governor acknowledged the challenges faced by entrepreneurs, including high taxes, delays in the payment of withdrawal orders and fiscal pressure on productive activities, calling for ‘open dialogue’ between the Government and the private sector.
During the meeting, issues related to the use of the agricultural and mining potential of the province were also discussed, such as ornamental stones and farms in preparation, as well as the role of cooperatives in local development.
Meanwhile, the director of the AGT Board, Luís Sambo, highlighted the importance of direct communication with economic agents, stating that ‘there are signs of interaction and dynamism of taxpayers, which demonstrates a growing interest in participating in the tax process’.
He also said that the AGT has an ongoing ‘Operation Informal’, a campaign that aims to integrate economic agents who operate outside the legality into the tax system.
Despite the firmness in collection, Sambo acknowledged that the culture of tax compliance has improved and assured that AGT will continue to support taxpayers who need guidance, reinforcing information and training actions.
