AU Chairperson’S Message Marks may 25 Celebrations in Turkey

Africa-Press – Angola. The message delivered by the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) João Lourenço on the continent’s 62nd anniversary, marked the May 25 celebrations in Ankara, Turkey, on Monday.

According to a press release sent, the appeal for cohesion and prosperity in Africa, made by the President of the Republic of Angola, deserved the attention and support of the Africans present at the ceremony, held under the motto “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparation”.

João Lourenço defended the need to join forces between the member countries in order to strengthen the continent, guarantee development and improve the quality of life for their children.

The meeting included an exhibition of Africa’s potential, in which each country showcased its best, especially from a cultural point of view.

The singing of the African anthem kicked off the event, followed by a speech by the dean of the African Group of Ambassadors, Ambassador Majok Guandong Thiep, who praised the achievements of the Pan-Africanists, pioneers of Africa’s emancipation and the challenges facing the continent.

Turkey’s deputy foreign minister, Burhanettin Duran, representing the Turkish government, stressed the importance of the date for defining objectives that promote Africa’s development.

He took the opportunity to reiterate the bonds of brotherhood with Africa and to thank many African countries for their support during the earthquake that devastated cities and decimated thousands of Turks in 2023.

The event brought together 38 representatives of African countries, diplomats and representatives of Turkish companies with interests in Africa, with Angola represented by ambassador João Salvador dos Santos Neto.
