Africa-Press – Angola. A total of 132 Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) will be installed for the first time in 38 municipalities across the country by April next year, as part of the expansion of the National Bank of Angola (BNA) network.
This is the second phase of the central bank’s service expansion program, which began in December 2023, aimed at bringing these services to new locations where there are no banking services.
The municipalities, which cover 12 provinces, are subdivided into three zones, with Zone A covering the locality of Banga (Cuanza Norte province) and the municipalities of Tchicala-Tcholoanga and Longonjo (Huambo), and Zone B comprising 26 municipalities in nine provinces.
Zone C covers nine municipalities in the provinces of Cuanza Norte (3), Cuando (1), Cubango (2), Cunene (1), and Malanje, with two municipalities.
The BNA has signed agreements with seven commercial banks to help it expand and improve people’s access to financial products and services, as well as reduce disparities in the geographical distribution of ATMs.
The Governor of the BNA, Manuel Tiago Dias, who presided over the formal presentation of the program, said the project reinforces the central bank’s policy regarding the expansion and improvement of these products and services.
He said the demand for services is growing, reporting that in May, 448 billion kwanzas were withdrawn from ATMs.
