Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is taking part this Saturday in the 26th Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), which is taking place in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, represents the Angolan Head of State João Lourenço, leading a delegation that includes the Minister of Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade”, and the Angolan ambassadors to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, Joaquim do Espírito Santo and José Luís de Matos.

The event is being held under the motto “Consolidating the Achievements of the Reform of ECCAS to Accelerate Regional Integration and the Construction of a Community of Destiny in Central Africa”, and was opened by the President of Equatorial Guinea and acting ECCAS President, Obiang Nguema.Also present are Faustin Archange Touadera, President of the Central African Republic, Denis Sassou NGuesso of the Republic of the Congo, Brice Oligui Clotaire Nguema of Gabon, Félix Tshissekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Carlos Manuel Vila Nova of São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, President of Chad.

The 26th Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) is taking stock of the implementation of the decisions of previous ordinary sessions and the results achieved in 2024 in the context of the fulfilment of the Medium-Term Indicative Strategic Plan (2021-2025) for the integration of Central Africa into ECCAS, including the challenges faced by the Commission.

It is also analysing the political and security situation in Central Africa since the 25th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECCAS, held on 18 October 2024 in Malabo, as well as the degree of implementation of the Declaration of the 6th Extraordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government on the humanitarian situation in Central Africa, also held in Equatorial Guinea.The Summit will also address the Mechanism for Police and Judicial Cooperation in Central Africa and will examine the draft Mechanism for Integrated Border Governance in Central Africa, which is necessary to reduce misunderstandings, disputes and border conflicts, which represent major obstacles to cross-border cooperation and regional integration. The ECCAS Heads of State and Government are also examining draft political and strategic documents on maritime security and security in shared continental waters of the Member States, as well as other documents related to the development of a sustainable blue economy in Central Africa. The main objective of this session is to contribute to the overall assessment of the Community’s activities and to decide on the necessary guidelines to consolidate the achievements of the ECCAS reform and to achieve the targets set by the Community bodies.The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) is a regional organization for the economic and political integration of the states of Central Africa.

It was created in Libreville, Gabon, in December 1981, with the aim of integrating the economies of its member countries, as well as creating a Customs Union and a Free Trade Area.

Its objectives also include the economic and social development of its member countries, reducing inequalities and taking advantage of trade opportunities.

Other objectives of the organization include strengthening cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, energy, transport and telecommunications, as well as working to resolve conflicts and ensure security.

The member countries of ECCAS are Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, Chad, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Rwanda and São Tomé and Príncipe.
