Africa-Press – Angola. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted on Monday in Luanda the brotherhood and ties of cooperation and friendship between the peoples of Angola and Cape Verde, evident in the celebrations of that country’s 50th anniversary of independence.

Speaking to the press at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport after participating in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Cape Verde’s independence, Carolina Cerqueira stressed that during her stay in Cape Verde, it was clear, in the various moments she spent with the Cape Verdean authorities, that there is a strong connection between the two countries and peoples, based on ties of kinship, common history, and the struggle for freedom.

“We noticed that there is a vibrant democracy, highlighted in the various speeches made during the activities related to the date, both in the Evocative Session and in the main event that took place in the National Assembly of Cape Verde,” said Carolina Cerqueira.

During the event, the country’s historical journey over five decades of self-determination was highlighted in the economic, political, and, above all, democratic spheres.

The Angolan delegation led by Carolina Cerqueira, included Justino Pinto de Andrade, 4th Vice-President of the National Assembly, José Semedo, and Sara Fialho.

Cape Verde’s independence was declared on July 5, 1975, in a ceremony at the Várzea Stadium, putting an end to Portuguese colonial rule.

The Angolan delegation met with the various high-level delegations invited to the 50th anniversary celebrations, in a unique moment of interaction and exchange of experiences on topics of common interest, with a view to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy in the context of promoting and preserving peace, social welfare, and global economic progress.
