Africa-Press – Angola. A legal work entitled “Corruption in Angola”, written by the jurist Hermenegildo Nicolau, was presented Monday, in Lubango, Huíla province, as part of the celebrations of the African Day for the Fight against Corruption, to be celebrated on 11 July.

This is the author’s first informative and educational work, which aims to raise awareness among ordinary citizens, civil servants and municipal administrators about the various aspects of the phenomenon of corruption and its implications for society.

According to the author, this is his first publication, consisting of 230 pages, divided into eight chapters, and addresses topics such as cultural hedonism, the influence of youth immediacy on illicit behaviour and the legal mechanisms for preventing and combating corruption.

He stated that the aim of this book is to enlighten citizens so that they understand that small acts, such as offering a bonus in exchange for a public service, constitute active corruption, just as the simple request for a benefit by an employee constitutes passive corruption.

The author also highlighted the importance of the work in the current situation in the country, which is under international evaluation in terms of combating corruption and money laundering.

He recalled that it was officially launched in July 2024, in Luanda, with 250 copies being distributed in Huíla with the aim of reaching a greater number of readers and contributing to the strengthening of civic and institutional awareness about practices considered inappropriate.

The presentation took place after the PGR’s lecture on “The crime of money laundering vs. the financial system and sustainable economic development”, in an atmosphere of reflection and sharing, marking the beginning of a series of activities alluding to the event under the auspices of the Attorney General’s Office.
