Africa-Press – Angola. The books “New Evangelization is Needed?” and “Journey of a Combatant”, by the writer and researcher João Miranda, were presented on Saturday in Huambo city.
The presentation and autograph ceremony, in the auditorium of the “Manuel Rui Monteiro” Cultural Center, was attended by the governor of the province of Huambo, Pereira Alfredo, Members of the Parliament, religious, traditional authorities and academics.
João Miranda valued the responsible and patriotic attitude present in the two works, which propose a reflection on essential issues of Angolan society, with emphasis on the protection of women and the appreciation of the country historical memory.
About the work “New Evangelization Is Needed?”, published in 2020, the author considers it to be the “symbolic murder” of the wife by husbands who, after a traditional union and the birth of children, make a new relationship official in another Registry Office, ignoring the bonds and sacrifices of the first partner.
According to the author, the book discusses topics such as clandestine polygamy, customary law, traditional marriage and the expropriation of women assets united through custom.
The work proposes a revision of Angolan legal instruments to legally protect these unions and guarantee women rights, including in cases of separation.
João Miranda clarified that, although the title of the work refers to a Christian expression, the central proposal is legal and social, aiming to alert about the need for a more inclusive legal framework that recognizes traditional marriages, valuing them as cultural heritage and a tool for social protection.
He defended the active involvement of women in the national production process, highlighting the importance of public policies that promote their participation in sustainable development.
About the book “Journey of a Combatant”, published in 2024, it follows an autobiographical style and shares the author memories from the beginning of the armed struggle to the process of national reconciliation, with emphasis on the value of peace.
In the work, João Miranda narrates the episodes lived from 1961, when many patriots took refuge in the forests to organize the struggle for the liberation of Angola.
He says that he went into exile in the then Democratic Congo, where he began his studies, before returning to the country to contribute to the construction of independent Angola.
The work emphasizes the need to record in books the deeds of national heroes, as a way of transferring knowledge to new generations and consolidating patriotic identity, arguing that the preservation of peace must be a collective commitment.
The author calls for the strengthening of patriotic symbols and the appreciation of the memories of the combatants who contributed to the achievement of national independence, which marks 50 years on November 11, 2025.
