Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Group of Ambassadors of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) in Italy reactivated, this Tuesday, the consultation meetings of this organization after a suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Angolan ambassador to Italy and permanent representative to the United Nations Agencies in Rome (FAO, IFAD and WFP), Fátima Jardim, coordinates the CPLP ambassadors since the country assumed the rotating presidency of the Organization, in June 2021.

At today’s meeting, according to the Angolan diplomat, “precious information was exchanged by the CPLP ambassadors in Rome” and proposals were presented that will be enriched with contributions from the participants.

According to Fátima Jardim, this meeting also analyzed the participation of the Community in the World Ocean Conference, to be held in Lisbon, from 27 June to 1 July 2022, organized by the United Nations, with the support of the Governments of Portugal and Kenya.

“We also talked about national, regional and local agendas, but we also approached the sustainable development agenda until 2030”, he said.

An approach was also made to the documents on “CPLP’s Food and Nutrition Security Strategies” and the “Climate Emergency Declaration”, as they are all affected in growth with what represents impressionability and climate vulnerability.

The diplomat took advantage of the occasion to invite those present to participate in the Forum of the Italy-Angola Chamber of Commerce, which will take place in Milan on 26 June. Finally, the ambassador welcomed the Portuguese Language Day and all national days “of the peoples who fight for progress, well-being and the consolidation of peace in the CPLP”.

The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of Portugal, Pedro Nuno de Abreu and Melo Bartolo, who welcomed this first post-Covid approach that follows the work of concertation at the community level, from Equatorial Guinea, Cecília Obono Ndong , and diplomats from Mozambique and of Brazil, whose minister counselor Marco Furlan highlighted the relevance of this Space that connects Portuguese-speaking countries and can contribute to the strengthening of multilateral relations, in addition to CPLP observers, such as Senegal, Spain and Greece.
