Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic said, Thursday (26), at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Angolan ambassador to the Republic of Poland, that he is confident that diplomat Manuel Pedro Chaves will be able to successfully represent Angola’s good name in that country of Eastern Europe, identifying new areas of interest.

João Lourenço, highlighted, on the occasion, the qualities of the ambassador, referring, this time, that he is a staff that dedicated his whole life to diplomacy. “During his entire life, the sworn in did nothing but diplomacy,” said the President of the Republic, wishing the ambassador success in fulfilling his new mission.

The swearing-in ceremony, which took place in the Main Hall of the Presidential Palace, in Cidade Alta, was witnessed by the Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, ministers of State and some members of the Executive.

Speaking to the press at the end of the ceremony, Ambassador Manuel Pedro Chaves pointed out as priorities of his mission the strengthening of relations of friendship and bilateral cooperation, identifying, to this end, other areas to boost cooperation, as well as to provide support to businessmen. Angolans who wish to cooperate with Polish businessmen.

Angola and Poland have signed several legal instruments, with emphasis on the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations, a cooperation agreement in the areas of scientific research and teaching, between Kimpa Vita do Uíge and Agrária de Kraków, in Poland. Also in the bilateral framework, the Loan Agreement, valued at US$100 million, by the Polish Government to Angola, stands out, aimed at financing the “Academia de Pesca e Ciências do Mar-3rd phase, located in Namibe province.

Political, diplomatic and cooperation relations between the two countries were reinforced on 24 April 1997 with the Declaration on Strengthening Friendship and Cooperation.
