Africa-Press – Angola. A total of 17 works by the Angolan visual artist Mateus dos Santos, reflecting diverse Angolan social contexts, are on display since Tuesday (12) and goes until the 31st of the current month at the 10A Gallery in Luanda, in an initiative by the Africell Foundation.

The exhibition, titled “Mateus Enciclopédico” (Encyclopedic Matthew, in English) features different techniques, from oil on canvas to painting on metal sheet and barbed wire, providing a journey through polysemic poetic conjunction.

According to the artist, the exhibition portrays social issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic and basic sanitation.

Mateus dos Santos highlighted the importance and appreciation of visual arts and their evolution in Angola during the 50 years of independence, emphasizing that they have always been fundamental to the exchange of messages in the national liberation struggle.

He noted that initiatives like that of the Africell Foundation help to encourage and promote Angolans visual artwork.

The foundation has a project that aims to develop and disseminate the arts and talents of young Angolan artists through exhibitions at Galeria 10 A, where more than 20 artists have performed in its two years.

Mateus dos Santos is a member of the National Union of Visual Artists (UNAP). He studied visual arts at the National Institute of Artistic Training (INFA) from 2024 to 2028.

He has received distinctions such as 1st and 2nd place in the Mirella Antognoli Argela Award from the Italian Embassy (2012 and 2011) and 3rd place in the UNDP Young Innovator Award (2022).
