Africa-Press – Angola. I would like to draw the public’s attention to the fact that a campaign is underway throughout the country to arrest citizens from a wide range of backgrounds, directly and indirectly involved in demonstrations, strikes and acts of vandalism.

Citizens who, through social media, call for protests and the adoption of measures to confront the situation are also being detained.

The arrest campaign was launched before the events of July 28, 29, and 30, most notably the arrest of Osvaldo Sérgio Correia Caholo, who is being held at the Calomboloca Prison. After these events, the arrest campaign took on larger proportions.

Angola, a state founded on November 11, 1975, is currently facing a serious general crisis, reflected in a set of problems that make it impossible for it to become an effective democratic state governed by the rule of law, developed and providing social welfare.

The epicenter of this serious general crisis is the MPLA. More than just hindering the resolution of Angola’s economic, social, and political problems, the MPLA has created several artificial problems aimed at maintaining its hold on power at all costs: false flag operations.

Over the past 20 years, the regime has carried out several false flag operations, with the 60 Toneladas trial being the most recent, which concluded in March.

Furthermore, another false flag operation is being forged: the ongoing Wagner Group case, in which three Angolan citizens (Caetano Agostinho Muhongo Capitão, Amor Carlos Tomé [the latter is a journalist and was detained in the TPA] and Oliveira Francisco) and two Russian citizens (Igor Racthin and Lev Lakshtanov) were detained, “for acts constituting the crimes of Criminal Association, Document Forgery, Terrorism and Terrorism Financing” and “for strong evidence of the practice of the crimes of Criminal Association, Document Forgery, Terrorism and Terrorism Financing, consisting of the recruitment and financing of national citizens for the production of propaganda materials and dissemination of false information on social media, promotion of demonstrations and looting”, according to a statement made by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC).

In a text by Anselmo Agostinho, we read: “Even more alarming are the indications of involvement of national political figures, such as Higino Carneiro and Dino Matrosse, associated with the organization’s network of influence. According to international investigations, Africa Politology operates not only with digital propaganda and fake news: it funds staged demonstrations, corrupts local journalists, and shapes the public narrative to favor Russian strategic interests.”

With the Wagner Group Process, the Regime aims to achieve objectives such as the following:

In the MPLA:

1 – To make the candidacy of Higino Carneiro for president of the MPLA and others who are lining up in this direction unviable;

2 – Prevent Dino Matrosse and other relevant MPLA figures from supporting Higino Carneiro or any other presidential candidate.

At the national level:

1 – Get the People (or at least the militant mass) to close ranks around João Lourenço and the MPLA;

2 – Stop the wave of demonstrations and strikes against the increase in fuel prices which, by affecting the prices of products and services, have resulted in the deterioration of the economic and financial conditions of the population;

3 – Abort the preparation of new street protests and taxi strikes and the like;

4 – Justify the preventive securitization of the streets, that is, before the 2027 general elections, to prevent the movement for electoral truth and alternation from taking over the streets.

At the international level:

1 – Gain the sympathy of the United States, the European Union, NATO and other aligned countries;

2 – Promote the notion that the President of the African Union, João Lourenço, is committed to combating Russian instruments of influence and subversion on the continent.

3 – Bring João Lourenço closer to Donald Trump.

It should be noted that there is no contradiction between the objectives of making the candidacies of the MPLA presidential candidates and their supporters unviable, and the objectives at the national and international levels.

It turns out that the MPLA’s general strategy of maintaining power is incompatible with internal democracy and with regeneration figures and agendas.

On the other hand, although Anselmo Agostinho does not mention Adalberto Costa Júnior or make any allusion to him or UNITA, the Wagner Group case will be used to compromise the president of UNITA and UNITA itself, albeit surreptitiously, since the MPLA’s general strategy for maintaining power always takes UNITA into account, the only organization with the real capacity to lead a popular movement for alternation.

More than 30 years later, Jonas Savimbi’s statement prevails: “the fight is between the MPLA and UNITA.”

Anselmo Agostinho is the same obscure figure who in the first months of 2025 published texts in which he ended up implicating Adalberto Costa Júnior and UNITA in the 60 Toneladas process.

His writing style and wealth of detail suggest that he is an agent of the Intelligence Services or someone supplied by them.

With the Wagner Group case, state institutions are, once again, being used as part of the MPLA’s strategy to maintain power – a set of decisions, actions, processes, methods, techniques and resources aimed at keeping it in power at all costs.

State institutions are configured and behave to keep the MPLA in power. The MPLA is in steep decline. A decline that cannot be stopped with any kind of shady dealing.
