Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço arrived on Friday (15) in the city of Saurimo, capital of the province of Lunda-Sul, for a several-hour working visit that includes the inauguration of the Higher Polytechnic Institute of the Lueji A’nkonde University.
Upon arrival at Deolinda Rodrigues Airport, the Head of State, accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, was welcomed by the local governor, Daniel Neto, and members of the Executive.
Located in the municipality of Muangueji, approximately six kilometers from the city of Saurimo, the new facility features a modern infrastructure with 57 classrooms.
The institution has 11 specialized labs in the areas of engineering, nursing, anatomy, chemistry, electromechanics, physics, and mineralogy, as well as an auditorium with 320 seats, a fully equipped computer room, and two multi-sports fields.
It also houses 6 offices, 2 main classrooms, a library, support buildings room, a hospital, a cafeteria, and a refectory.
The institution, budgeted at US$44 mln, will offer 13 courses, including civil engineering, electricity, mining, mechanics, history, computer science, electromechanics, metallurgy, mathematics, pedagogy, nursing, biology, and administration and management.
It has an installed capacity for 5,400 students in three shifts (morning, afternoon, and evening) and currently has 1,207 places available.
The infrastructure was financed by the diamond trading company Sodiam E.P., as part of its social responsibility program.
Construction took three years and was undertaken by the national construction company Engevia, covering a total area of 94,400 square meters, with the built area covering 14,900 square meters.
