Africa-Press – Angola. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres advocated on Wednesday, in Yokohama, for a stronger Africa in decision-making that affects the future of humanity.
Guterres was speaking at the opening of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), which runs from the 20th to the 24th of the current month, an initiative co-sponsored by the African Union (AU) and the Japanese govt.
The Portuguese diplomat serving the United Nations believes that Africa must have a stronger voice in decision-making that can impact the future of global societies.
He explained that, to achieve this goal, comprehensive reforms of current institutions and models in all crucial areas are necessary.
For António Guterres, global institutions and models, both political and financial, must first be reformed to reflect nowadays reality.
Africa must have a stronger voice in shaping decisions that affect the future, he declared, adding that this includes standardizing the Security Council and maintaining and monitoring a fair financial architecture capable of enriching African representation.
He emphasized that a response of confidence is necessary on a continent where, today, 34 countries “spend more on network services than on education.
