Africa-Press – Angola. The athletes of the National Basketball Team, who won the 12th African Senior Men’s Basketball Championship (Afrobasket 2025) on Sunday (24) received a house and a vehicle each, the minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, informed Tuesday, in Luanda.
The minister was speaking to the press after the African champions were received in an audience by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.
He stated that “those who dedicate themselves to their country deserve to be recognized”, referring to the performance of the athletes who finished the event undefeated, facing tough opponents.
In Sunday’s final, at the Kilamba pavilion in the country’s capital, the Angolan squad beat Mali, 70-43.
Angola went twelve years without winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Basketball, since 2013 in a competition held in Côte d ́Ivoire.
This victory comes especially in a year in which Angola celebrates 50 years of National Independence, to be marked on November 11th.
The tournament was held in the Angolan cities of Moçâmedes and Luanda.
Childe Dundão, Abou Gakou, Sílvio de Sousa, Selto Miguel, Milton Valente, Jilson Bango, João Fernandes, Macachi Braz, Bruno Fernando, Kelvin Kokila, Eduardo Francisco e Gelson Gonçalves, are the athletes who made up the National Team.
