Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is participating in the 1st African Summit on Biodiversity, which takes place from the 2nd to the 5th of this month in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, aimed at strengthening global cooperation on this matter.
The Angolan delegation is headed by the Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho Pereira, who represents the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, at this continental meeting which is taking place under the theme “Valuing Africa’s Biodiversity for Prosperity”.
The event is an international strategic platform aimed at strengthening global cooperation for the preservation of biodiversity, the protection of ecosystems and the promotion of the sustainable use of natural resources.
During the work, participants will discuss and approve concrete measures for the recovery and conservation of biodiversity, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the multilateral environmental commitments assumed by African countries.
The Summit brings together Heads of State and Government of African Union Member States, as well as development partners, private sector representatives, academics, civil society, women and youth, in a space for inclusive dialogue and joint decision-making.
At the end of the meeting, a Final Declaration on Biodiversity will be adopted, which will include clear, ambitious and achievable commitments by Member States, strengthening Africa”s role in defending the environment and sustainable development of the continent.
