Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço expressed on Sunday Angola’s interest in strengthening cooperation with India in the healthcare field. Angola wants to take advantage of India’s experience and capacity in staff training, as well as its manufacturing of medicines and vaccines.

During a joint press conference with Indian President Draupadi Murmu, who is visiting Angola, Lourenço highlighted the healthcare sector as a key area of cooperation between the two countries.

“India is very strong in the healthcare sector, not only because of the quality of its physicians, but also because of the capacity of its universities and research centers. We would like to see more Indian physicians working in our hospitals, and we would like to send our professionals to India for training and specialization,” said Lourenço.

The president also emphasized Angola’s interest in collaborating with India to combat cancer, a disease that currently forces many Angolan citizens to seek treatment abroad.

“We are building a new oncology hospital, and we have invited Indian specialists to oversee the initial phase and provide guidance on equipment” the Angolan president said.

In addition to technical matters, Lourenço expressed his intention to attract Indian private investment to establish pharmaceutical and vaccine production plants in Angola. This would reduce dependence on imports and strengthen the national pharmaceutical industry.

The Angolan statesman also mentioned other priority areas of cooperation with India: information and communication technologies (ICT), the aerospace industry, and the defense sector. The goal is to promote knowledge transfer and technological development in Angola.

The President of India’s visit to Angola aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation established in 1979, and to promote the implementation of agreements and memoranda signed by the two countries.
