Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Miguel da Costa, on Tuesday in Kinshasa, paid tribute to men and women who fought for the country’s Independence.

He was speaking during a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of National Independence, having highlighted on the occasion the importance of fraternal relations and cooperation between the two countries.

The ambassador reaffirmed that, in addition to symbols and figures, celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of Independence is a remarkable experience.

In a retrospective analysis, Miguel da Costa highlighted the importance of valuing the progress achieved since independence and in this context, particularly highlighting the achievement of peace, political and social stability, the progressive strengthening of the rule of law and the significant advances, both in quantity and quality, in the country’s economic and social development.

Ambassador Miguel da Costa also highlighted Congo’s historic role and unquestionable solidarity in supporting Angola’s Independence and its peace process.

He added that “its schools and universities trained entire generations of leaders who led our country to independence”.

The diplomat recalled that Congolese generosity was evident in the negotiations that led to the Gbadolite Accords, a crucial step towards the subsequent Bicesse Accords held in Portugal, which resulted in the first Angolan multiparty elections.
