Africa-Press – Angola. The Italian Embassy in Angola intends to implement a series of cultural projects in the country in the near future, with a view to strengthening bilateral relations in this sector, the Italian ambassador Marco Ricci announced Monday (17), in Luanda.
The diplomat was speaking on the sidelines of the screening of the film entitled “A Proposito dell’ Angola”, presented by the Italian embassy, on the occasion of the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of Angola’s Independence, marked on November 11th.
Marco Ricci said that he would like to establish a film co-production agreement to boost this sector in Angola.
For this reason, he disclosed, he’ll propose the aforementioned agreement to the minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, and hoped that it can be implemented quickly to promote a cultural and creative industry.
In addition, he clarified, it will also be strengthened the cooperation in the theater and music sectors; “in fact, we have many ideas,” he asserted.
“Regarding Angola”
About the film, he said that it has a particular significance because it was the first concrete testimony that drew the attention of European and Western public opinion to the struggle for the liberation of Angola, offering a sensitive and deeply committed look at the truth.
He emphasized that the set of images that the film displays shows not only the harshness of a colonial period, but also the hope, dignity and determination of a people who dreamed of freedom.
“This film is a living testimony of Angolan collective memory, a memory that must be preserved, studied and passed on to new generations,” he explained.
Angola and Italy maintain excellent political relations by virtue of strong historical ties and the deepening of bilateral relations following the 2002 Peace Accords and the process of economic growth initiated in the country.
Italy was the first Western European country to recognize Angola’s independence, in February 1976. In the same year, the two countries established diplomatic relations.
The excellent relations between Angola and Italy are evidenced by the high frequency of visits and the organization of high-level bilateral meetings.
