Africa-Press – Angola. The chairman of the Chamber of Traditional and Natural Medicine Therapists of Huambo Province, Adelino Sandambongo, on Tuesday called for the involvement of traditional leaders in reporting false therapists in communities who are harming the health of citizens.
Speaking to the press, after visiting some natural and traditional medicine centers in the peripheral neighborhoods and outskirts of Huambo city, Adelino Sandambongo
said that there are therapists who, in the pursuit of easy profit, insist on deceiving citizens by claiming to know how to cure various diseases.
He urged that all therapists working without proper documentation should be reported to the defence and security forces, otherwise this problem will continue to harm the health of the population in the communities.
Adelino Sandambongo stated that the organization he heads is working with the government, as well as with the National Police, with the aim to legalize natural therapists, given the concern to prevent fake professionals who insist on lying to extort money from innocent citizens.
He said the organization is committed to training traditional therapists, especially to master the application of natural medicine dosages, a situation that still presents many weaknesses, instead of helping citizens, they cause further harm and intoxicate the body.
Without specifying numbers, the official said that in partnership with the National Police, some natural and traditional medicine health centers were closed because they lacked hygienic conditions for patient hospitalization.
Natural therapist Luciano Caetano, practicing since 2012, said that the main healing issues he is requested from patients are “witchcraft spells” and thrombosis, and added that the treatment with plants can last from one to three months.
He said he had five years of unconventional training in the municipality of Bailundo and is working on the documentation for the legalization of the center where he practices, with the support of the chamber and traditional authorities.
In turn, Pedro Pakissi, another therapist, said that natural medicine has assisted conventional medicine in curing some diseases, such as typhoid fever, cysts, tubal stenosis, endometriosis and cellular degeneration.
The Chamber of Traditional and Natural Medicine Therapists of Huambo province oversees 4,350 professionals practicing in this region of the country.
