Africa-Press – Angola. The Republic of Hungary has already invested around USD 50 million in various strategic sectors in Angola, the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of the two countries, Célio Ginga, announced on Wednesday in the southern Benguela Province.
According to the official, who was speaking during a visit by Hungarian businessmen to that part of the country, Hungary intends to deepen economic cooperation, focusing on the sectors of infrastructure, industry, transport, logistics, health, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and tourism.
Célio Ginga also highlighted the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor, which he considers a key area for national development.
“The Lobito Corridor is essential to boost the Angolan economy, not only as a logistical support route, but also as a regional reference and potential export platform” he said.
The official highlighted that relations of the European country with Angola date back to 1975, adding that it has advanced technology, especially in the construction of infrastructure and bridges.
“It is one of the European countries with the largest number of bridges and has modern machinery that Angola can take advantage of, at a stage where the country is undergoing strong structural expansion”, he emphasized.
According to Célio Ginga, the Hungarian government demonstrates an “extraordinary openness” to support not only the development of the corridor, but also to ensure that the communities around it can directly benefit from this.
The chairman of the Benguela Business Alliance, Adérito Areias, stated that Hungary is among the most developed countries in Europe in terms of infrastructure and industry. He emphasized that this country can offer valuable partnership opportunities with Angolan entrepreneurs.
“We want to take advantage of this potential to create solid connections and generate new business opportunities” he stressed.
Another point considered advantageous by the entrepreneurs is the possibility for Angola to benefit from Hungarian education and technical training, especially in priority areas for economic development.
In turn, the provincial governor of Benguela, Manuel Nunes Júnior, expressed the Angolan government’s interest and willingness to work towards strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields.
He said that Benguela is open to Hungarian investment in a wide variety of fields, taking into account the diverse potential of the province.
Manuel Nunes Júnior took the opportunity to request particular attention to be paid to the health sector, especially regarding the local manufacture of medicines to reduce imports and increase employment.
“Benguela is the most sought-after province in the country for domestic tourism, and we want to transform it into an international attraction and with your intention to also invest in this segment, it will certainly be possible to implement this initiative”, he concluded.
