Vice-President Concludes Working Visit to Shanghai

Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, concluded her working visit to Shanghai, China, on Wednesday, where she participated in two thematic forums and held meetings with local entities to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

At the end of the day, in statements to the press, the official considered the results achieved in the Chinese city positive and highlighted her participation in the 8th Annual Taihu Culture Conference and other events.

“We make a positive assessment of this visit”, said the Vice-President, emphasizing that Angola attaches great importance to strategic cooperation with the People’s Republic of China.

According to her, Angola wants to see this relationship increasingly strengthened, prioritizing high-level political dialogue, already boosted by President João Lourenço’s recent visit to the Asian country.

The Vice-President stressed that Angola is interested in expanding economic cooperation to other areas, such as science, technology and culture, identifying areas of common interest and mutual benefits.

She reaffirmed that Angola deeply values China’s role as a development partner and expresses its intention to continue consolidating these good relations.

Her working visit program also included visits to the Huawei Technology Center and the BRICS Technology and Development Center, presented as examples of national capacity building through technology and the use of artificial intelligence.

“We want our youth to have opportunities in China. This is how we intend to strengthen cooperation, so that more Angolans can benefit from the level of technological development that drives the Chinese economy”, she said.

Esperança da Costa also referred to her meeting with the former President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, current chairwoman of the New Development Bank of the BRICS, which, according to her, offers new possibilities for supporting Angolan projects related to infrastructure modernization, economic development, human capital qualification, trade, and other services.

She considered that Angola and Brazil maintain excellent relations and that the country wants to strengthen them, as well as deepen cooperation with the other Global South states that are part of the BRICS.

Esperança da Costa also spoke about the visit to the Chinese Communist Party Museum, describing it as an enriching experience, as it clearly portrays China’s historical journey from the struggle for independence to the achievements of its people.

She highlighted the interactive way in which the museum presents different moments in Chinese history, which constitutes a model that Angola would like to see replicated, not only for party purposes, but also as a tool for teaching and preserving historical memory.

At the end of her working visit, the Vice-President Esperança da Costa stated that the Angolan delegation leaves Shanghai with a very positive impression and with a commitment to continue strengthening relations with People’s Republic of China based on friendship, fraternity between peoples, mutual respect, and the sovereignty of both countries.
