Minister Highlights Advantages of New Angolan Passport

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Interior, Manuel Homem, in the National Assembly said the new Angolan Passport introduces significant improvements in terms of security, technological modernization and protection of citizens’ identity.

The minister said the updated document incorporates advanced encryption mechanisms, electronic signatures and digital certificates, elements that guarantee greater authenticity, reliability and international interoperability.

According to the minister, the changes bring Angola closer to the highest standards defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ensuring that the national passport meets current demands for mobility, border control and document security.

Manuel Homem stressed that the new model will allow the Immigration and Foreigners Service to reduce vulnerabilities, speed up procedures and offer citizens a more modern, simple and transparent service.

The minister said the reforms introduce improved personal data protection, with the harmonization of the legislation with the Personal Data Protection Law, ensuring safer mechanisms for storing and processing information.

Mnuel Homem also highlighted that the introduction of different validity periods, adjusted to the age of the holders, increases administrative efficiency and ensures greater suitability of the document to the real needs of citizens.

“The new passport reinforces the sovereignty of the State, the international credibility of Angola and the citizens’ confidence in the national identification system,” he stated.

The official stated that the revision results from the need to adapt the legislation to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), especially regarding the security of machine-readable travel documents.

Changes

Accordingly, the Diplomatic passport will be valid for 5 years, while the Ordinary passport will be valid for 10 years for those over 18 years of age, five years for those aged 4 to 17, and three years for those aged 0 to 3.
