Africa-Press – Angola. The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU), of which Angola is a member, will analyze on December 8, the situation in Somalia and the operations of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia. This session is one of several scheduled by Côte d’Ivoire, the AU’s monthly presidency.
According to a source consulted , the meeting should focus on the full operationalization of the mission and the existential financing challenges it faces, since, in addition to significant deficits, AUSSOM is expected to lose approximately 130 million US dollars from the United Nations logistical support package.
The following day, there will be an information session on the topic of “Continental Early Warning System and Security Perspectives,” with the participation of the African Intelligence and Security Services Committee (CISSA), the AU Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), and the AU Counter-Terrorism Centre (AUCTC).
December 11 is reserved for an informal consultation with countries undergoing political transition, a meeting initially scheduled for November but postponed, partly due to the lack of confirmation of participation from representatives of the three Central Sahel countries.
The session will assess the progress made and the challenges encountered in these ongoing transition processes. It will also explore how the CPS can strengthen its support for the political normalization of the affected Member States.
Also within the program, on December 15, the CPS will analyze the Commission’s report on the mandate of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MLTF), and updates on the implementation of previous decisions are awaited.
This includes those from its last meeting held in June 2025, which endorsed and validated the “Revised Five-Year Regional Strategy for the Stabilization, Resilience and Recovery of Areas Affected by Boko Haram in the Lake Chad Basin”.
In addition to the sessions, the Annual High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa will take place from December 1 and 2, at the ministerial level, along with an informal consultation with countries in political transition on peace and security issues affecting them.
This seminar aims to strengthen cooperation between the CPS and the African members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on peace and security issues on the continent. This year’s seminar, also known as the Oran Process, is taking place in Algiers, Algeria.
