Africa-Press – Angola. The Ombuds Office has received more than 10,000 complaints this year nationwide, with the highest incidence in the Province of Luanda, the head of the institution, Florbela Araújo, reported Wednesday.

Speaking at the opening of the Ombud’s IV Expanded Council, she detailed that these cases are related to procedural delays, pensioners and land conflicts.

She clarified that during this period the institution carried out fact-finding visits to all provinces, including hospitals, daycare centers, nursing homes, and prisons, holding meetings with judicial magistrates, Public prosecutor’s offices, criminal investigation services, the Bar Association, and other public administration bodies.

She said that whenever necessary, recommendations were issued to public bodies, guaranteeing solutions to safeguard citizens’ rights.

At the international level, she highlighted Angola’s active participation in the activities of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), mentioning the holding of the 8th General Assembly, which took place in Luanda and was attended by more than 20 Ombudsmen and foreign delegations, an event that reinforced the visibility and credibility of the Ombuds Office.

According to Florbela Araújo, at the national level, the Ombuds Office celebrated the 20th anniversary of the election of its first Ombudsman, Paulo Tchipilica (who passed away this year), in an event that brought together national and international experts, promoting the exchange of experiences and the improvement of institutional practices.

During the ceremony, the official said that efforts to expand provincial services were praised, with the Bié delegation already inaugurated and the Malanje and Cuanza Norte delegations expected to open soon, in order to ensure greater proximity of the Ombuds Office to citizens.

The 4th Extended Council is taking place with the participation of national and international leaders, technicians and guests.

The meeting, which concludes on Thursday, will result in the adoption of recommendations to strengthen the internal organization of the Ombuds Office and improve the provision of services to the public.

The event, which takes place under the motto “Ombudsman: Strengthening Internal Organization in Service of the Citizen,” aims to analyze the results achieved, identify limitations, and define strategies to strengthen the institution’s efficiency and the defense of citizens’ rights, freedoms, and guarantees.
