Culture Day - Huíla Hosts 1St Culture and Arts Camp Event

Africa-Press – Angola. The municipality of Quilengues will host, from the 7th to the 10th of the current month, the First Culture and Arts Camp of the southern province of Huíla, as part of the celebrations of the National Culture Day, to be marked on Thursday (8).

The initiative, which brings together 300 cultural actors from the 23 municipalities of the province, is promoted by the relevant Provincial Office and aims to reinforce the appreciation, promotion and preservation of the different cultural manifestations existing in the province, as well as to stimulate exchange between creators from different artistic areas.

According to the head of the Department of Culture, Art, Historical Heritage and Communities of the Provincial Culture Office, Bernardino Hafeni Gabriel, the camp will feature the participation of artists from various fields, namely cinema, literature, sculpture, music, dance and theatre, reflecting Huíla’s cultural diversity.

He stated that one of the main highlights of the event will be the debate on cinematography, considering the growth of film production in the province, a situation that, according to the official, requires greater coordination and reflection among those involved.

In addition to cinema, the program includes debates on citizenship, the role of the artist in society, and patriotic education, themes considered fundamental for strengthening cultural identity and civic spirit.

The choice of the municipality of Quilengues, the source said, is part of the policy of decentralizing cultural activities, with the aim of promoting the inclusion of artists outside the city of Lubango.

He explained that Quilengues and Lubango are participating with 50 representatives each, while the remaining municipalities will be represented by 5 participants, in addition to members from cultural associations.

According to the source, the camp will include the participation of defense and security agencies, including personnel from the Angolan Armed Forces, the National Police, the Air Force, and the Inter-Arms Sergeants’ School, recognizing the contribution of culture to strengthening national cohesion and troop morale.

As part of the commemorations, the headquarters of the Semba Tourist Route will also be inaugurated in Quilengues, a project developed in partnership with the Luanda-based organization Semba in the World, which includes Huíla as one of the national destinations on the route.

He explained that the Samba Tourist Route covers several municipalities in the province, including Lubango, Humpata, Chibia, Cacula, Matala, Caluquembe, Chicomba and Quilengues, whose main goal is to professionalize the practitioners, allowing semba to also establish itself as a source of income.

National Culture Day, celebrated on Jan 8th, aims to promote the appreciation of Angolan cultural identity and the contribution of culture to the social, economic and tourist development of the country.
