Africa-Press – Angola. The Speaker of the National Assembly Adão de Almeida met on Wednesday ambassadors of Ukraine, Sudan, and the Netherlands accredited to Angola, with whom he discussed strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and bilateral cooperation.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Ukrainian diplomat Andril Kasianov considered the audience “very constructive” and expressed interest in developing structured inter-parliamentary cooperation with Angola, which includes strengthening parliamentary friendship groups between the two countries.

Kasianov emphasized the role of inter-parliamentary diplomacy as an instrument to boost cooperation in the fields of economy, defense, science, culture, and humanitarian action, and confirmed the intention to invite a delegation from the National Assembly of Angola for an official visit to Ukraine.

The diplomat highlighted that strengthening relations between the Angolan parliament and the countries of the European Union could contribute to deepening bilateral relations and improving the well-being of the peoples involved.

Abderaoul Amir Ali Amir, Sudanese ambassador, presented to the Speaker of the National Assembly the grave humanitarian situation in his country, marked by more than three years of armed conflict that has caused the destruction of infrastructure and an unprecedented crisis.

According to the data presented, approximately 20 million Sudanese are displaced, including internally displaced persons and refugees in neighboring countries, representing almost half of Sudan’s population.

The Sudanese diplomat expressed gratitude for the support of the leader of the National Assembly and the President of the Republic of Angola, requesting the country’s contribution to mediation efforts and the promotion of peace, and expressed interest in developing stronger bilateral relations between both countries.

Finally, the diplomat from the Netherlands, Henny De Vries, said that during the meeting, initiatives to deepen parliamentary cooperation were discussed, including exchanges between deputies, and the expansion of collaboration in the commercial, agro-logistics, cultural, and sporting areas.

Henny De Vries highlighted Dutch involvement in the Lobito Corridor and support for the creation of the Caála agro-logistics platform, reaffirming his country’s commitment to continue investing in Angola’s economic development.

He also emphasized the importance of cooperation between friendly countries in an increasingly fragmented international context and recalled that the Netherlands was among the first to recognize Angola’s independence.
