Africa-Press – Angola. The laying of a wreath at the Ntó Historical Landmark, in the province of Cabinda, marked the opening of the main event of the commemorations of the day the Armed Struggle for National Liberation began, which marks the 65th anniversary of the event.

The act of tribute to the combatants of February 4, 1961, was witnessed by the provincial governor of Cabinda, Suzana de Abreu, and several members of the Angolan Executive.

The celebrations are taking place under the motto “Preserving the Values of the Homeland, Let Us Honor Our Heroes” and also include the inauguration of social infrastructure in the province and the holding of a political event.

The date constitutes one of the most relevant milestones in the contemporary history of Angola, as it symbolizes the beginning of the struggle that led to National Independence.

The province of Cabinda, especially the Ntó region, played a crucial role during the Angolan Civil War in the region, marking the resistance against the invasion of Zaire and the consolidation of control over the national territory.
