Africa-Press – Angola. The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Angola, Óscar León González, advocated on Friday (06) in Mbanza-Kongo, northern province of Zaire, for strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation relations in the tourism sector, an area in which his country has vast experience.

In statements to the press, on the sidelines of his three-day working visit to that province, the diplomat acknowledged that the development of tourism is one of the priorities of the Angolan Executive, in order to promote and value the enormous potential existing in the country.

According to Óscar León González, recent data points to a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting Angola, placing the country among the most sought-after destinations in the African region.

The diplomat stressed that, recently he read an article that reported on the growth of tourist flow in Angola in 2025, a fact that deserves his country ́s recognition and congratulations to the Angolan authorities.

The Cuban ambassador also mentioned that there is a willingness on both sides to continue expanding bilateral cooperation in several areas of common interest, with emphasis on culture, civil construction, sports, among other sectors.

He also stressed that they have a mechanism that supports the expansion of this cooperation, which is the intergovernmental mechanism for economic, scientific and technical cooperation between the two countries.

Óscar León González has been on a working visit to Mbanza-Kongo, the capital of Zaire Province, since Thursday (05), during which he has been observing the socio-economic reality of the region, as well as the work carried out by Cuban doctors and university professors who serve in this city, classified as a World Heritage Site.

Diplomatic relations between Angola and Cuba were officially established on Nov 15, 1975, and are characterized by a strong historical bond of solidarity, military and technical cooperation, which has lasted for more than 4 decades.

Over the years, the Angola/Cuba cooperation has evolved into a solid strategic partnership, encompassing sectors such as health, education, defense, and personnel training.
