Africa-Press – Angola. An integrated poultry production, slaughterhouse, and feed manufacturing complex, with a capacity of approximately two thousand chickens per day, was inaugurated on Saturday (07) in the centre-west province of Benguela.

The result of a private investment valued at around USD 7 million, the infrastructure, belonging to the company Pembati, is located in an area of 24 hectares in the Kapiandalo neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Benguela, and was inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac dos Anjos.

In statements to the press, the owner of the enterprise, Ary Jerónimo, explained that the complex consists of three pavilions, two intended for the breeding and rearing of broiler chickens, with a capacity for 26,000 birds each, and one for laying hens, with an installed capacity for 27,000 birds.

The businessman said that the laying hen unit will allow for an average daily production of more than 26,000 eggs, while the poultry slaughterhouse, considered modern, has the capacity to slaughter 500 chickens per hour, totaling about 2 thousand chickens per day.

He emphasized that this is the first infrastructure of its kind in the province of Benguela dedicated to the slaughter of broiler chickens, with the objective of producing approximately 600 tons of chicken meat annually.

The idea, he said, is to contribute to supplying the domestic market and reducing imports of animal protein.

Ary Jerónimo added that the complex already supplies chicken to the national market through a protocol with the Carrinho group, with approximately 14 tons having been delivered recently.

The unit also includes two feed mills, one for poultry feed, with a production capacity of three tons per hour, and another for dogs and fish, with a capacity of 1.5 tons per hour.

The complex employs around 60 permanent workers and almost 80 temporary workers.

The project received funding of 3.2 million dollars from the Banco de Comércio e Indústria (BCI), and construction began in 2022.

“Despite initially considering seizing the complex, the bank ended up becoming a partner in the project, through its owner, the Carrinho group, allowing production to continue,” he explained.

According to the businessman, sales are made wholesale, with prices below market value, with a 15-kilogram box of chicken being sold for 30,000 kwanzas (USD 1 = 912Kz), aiming to facilitate access to food products for the population.
