Africa-Press – Angola. Thirteen groups will parade in the Matala Carnival, in Huíla, taking place next Saturday, the 14th, on Avenida da Prodel, the municipal director of Tourism and Culture, Francisca Odeth Cambale, announced this Tuesday.
In an interview with ANGOP, the director reaffirmed the commitment of the Municipal Administration, school directors, neighborhood leaders, and partners.
Of the 13 groups, 11 are adult groups and two are children’s groups, who are reinforcing their rehearsals with street parades.
She stated that the first to third place winners will represent the municipality in the provincial parade in Lubango at the end of the month.
According to the regulations, she said, each group must have more than 70 members, and the main elements to be evaluated by the jury include music, costumes, choreography, costumes, theme suitability, leader, queen, harmony, and evolution.
Without revealing the prize money, Francisca Cambale informed that the prizes have been improved compared to the previous edition, to encourage groups to participate and reinforce the values of unity, inclusion, and preservation of the National Cultural Heritage.
Located 180 kilometers east of Lubango, Matala is the second most populated municipality in Huíla with 233,399 inhabitants, according to the 2024 Census.
