Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President, Esperança da Costa, ended o Tuesday a two-day working visit to Uige province, where she chaired the 1st Ordinary Session of the National Commission for the Safeguarding of World Heritage.

During her visit, the Vice-President inspected the construction of the new Uige General Hospital, the operation of the Kimpa Vita University, and other educational establishments.

She also inaugurated the project for 15,000 household water connections in the Kindenuco neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Uige, where the initiative to expand the distribution of this liquid in the region was presented.

The Vice-President also visited the Uige Municipal Maternity Hospital, where she learned about its operation.

The National Commission for the Safeguarding of World Cultural Heritage is tasked of promoting conservation programs and the participatory management of cultural heritage, adoption of special measures to monitor national cultural heritage with exceptional universal value.

Located approximately 345 kilometers from Luanda, the province of Uige is known for its natural and cultural wealth, with several tourist attractions, including the Lagoa do Feitiço, the Grutas do Nzenzo, the Serra do Pingano, Bombo, Massau and Camulungo.

In addition to its tourism potential, Uige is a province with high agricultural and mining (copper, cobalt and zinc) and forestry potential.

The province, which now has 23 municipalities, faces challenges regarding infrastructure and fuel supply, but continues to attract investment, especially in the coffee and copper mining sectors.
