Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, on Wednesday said that young people are the driving force behind Angola’s future, bringing energy, talent and courage. He added that sport represents discipline, inclusion, identity and collective pride.
In a message sent for the Sports Ministry’s 37th anniversary, the minister said that the celebration marks a national mission and the Angolan State’s historical commitment to the present and future of youth and sport.
The message adds that the Ministry of Youth and Sports was created to be an instrument of transformation, inclusion and human development. Having faced challenges and experienced changes, the ministry has served, elevated and projected youth and sport as strategic pillars of national development throughout its journey.
‘On this day, I would like to pay tribute to everyone who has contributed to building this ministry, including former leaders, technicians, collaborators, partners, youth associations, federations, clubs and athletes. Each step has contributed to consolidating a structure that must be ever closer to the people, young people and communities,’ the letter reads.
The minister emphasized that Angola will only be truly great if its youth are prepared to lead, work and build, and find in sport the means to overcome challenges, merit and a winning spirit.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Angola was formally established as a ministerial portfolio on 11 February 1989.
Its evolution began in 1976 with the establishment of the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sport within the Ministry of Education. It then underwent various changes, including becoming the State Secretariat for Physical Education and Sports (SEEFD) in 1979, before assuming its current form.
