Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State and Head of the President’s Civil Office, Dionisio da Fonseca, has been in Abuja, Nigeria, since Tuesday to represent President João Lourenço at the 50th anniversary of the assassination of General Murtala Muhammed.

On Wednesday, the Minister of State visited the Angolan Embassy and the former First Lady of Nigeria, Ajoke Murtala Muhammed, the widow of the former Nigerian Head of State.

He also met with business groups and the governors of the Nigerian states of Bayelsa and Nasarawa, which have twinning agreements with the Angolan provinces of Namibe and Bengo.

On Thursday, the Minister of State will speak at an international conference on the theme: “Has Africa Come of Age?”

The conference will revisit the Nigerian statesman’s pan-Africanist vision for the political emancipation of several African countries and explore Africa’s contemporary trajectory in global politics.

Murtala Ramat Muhammed (1938–1976) was a Nigerian military leader and de facto head of state from July 1975 until his assassination in February 1976.

Renowned for his anti-corruption stance, bold reforms and resolute leadership, Muhammed governed the country for just 200 days, leaving a profound mark on the nation before being killed in a coup attempt.
