Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) signed an agreement on Thursday, in Luanda, regarding the establishment of the Permanent Joint Commission for Defence and Security to enhance security along the common border.

The document, signed by the minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem, and his counterpart from the DR Congo, Shabani Bihango, will strengthen collaboration in the areas of training and the enhancement of public security required in the current context marked by the internationalisation of criminal phenomena, transnational organised crime, and irregular migration.

At the time, Manuel Homem said that the agreement represents the reinforcement of continuous work in the protection of peoples and the improvement of circulation conditions so that neighbouring populations can experience a relationship of peace and stability.

He urged, henceforth, to move towards practical actions to implement this instrument so that both country ́s peoples can effectively perceive the will of both governments in order toimplement security at the common border.

He noted that the signing of this memorandum reflects the will of the Presidents of Angola and the DRC, who have recently been working together to improve relations between the two states.

In turn, the Minister of the Interior of the DRC, Shabani Lukoo Bihango, said that the agreement allows the regulatory framework for cross-border materials to be put into effect between the two countries.

Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) share a common border of 2,511 kilometers.
