Ndungu Oil Field Begins Production

Africa-Press – Angola. The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) and Azule Energy announced, the start of the full development of a new oil spot, named Ndungu Full-field, with the entry into production of its first three wells.

According to a note from ANPG, this milestone marks another critical advance in the Integrated Development Agogo West Hub (AIWH) and reinforces the joint strategy to maximize resource recovery in the western area of Block 15/06.

The Ndungu field falls within the scope of the Integrated Development Agogo West Hub, which comprises two distinct fields (Agogo and Ndungu).

Operated by Azule Energy, with a 36.84% stake, in partnership with Sonangol E&P (36.84%) and Sinopec International (26.32%), this is the second stage of this development and will add significant capacity to the national energy portfolio.

Located approximately 10 km from the Ngoma Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit and at a water depth of approximately 1,100 meters, the complete Ndungu development integrates 7 production wells and 4 injection wells, with the potential to reach a peak production of 60,000 barrels of oil daily.

As per the national concessionaire, the start-up of Ndungu is the result of a coordinated effort between all the teams involved (reservoirs, drilling, projects and operations), allowing for a parallel and efficient execution of critical activities.

It informs that the initial production will be channeled through a tieback to the existing subsea infrastructure of the West Hub and to the Ngoma FPSO, ensuring the early start of production before the future migration to the Agogo FPSO.

Achieving this milestone in just 6 months, after the first oil from the FPSO Agogo, according to the Agency, demonstrates operational excellence and sets a new benchmark for the swift and safe execution of deepwater offshore projects.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ANPG, Paulino Jerónimo, quoted in the note, this new milestone reflects the efficient investment in the development and enhancement of Angola’s natural resources and reinforces the ongoing commitment to working with operators to capture every opportunity for production and promote the growth and empowerment of national human capital.

The Azule Energy CEO, Joseph Murphy, states that with the start of operations, the Agogo Integrated West Hub continues to progress towards its full potential.

He said that, together, Agogo and Ndungu should reach a combined peak of approximately 175,000 barrels per day, reinforcing Azule Energy’s firm commitment to contributing to Angola’s energy future.

The phased integration of the Agogo IWH — with Ndungu initially producing via the Ngoma FPSO and after via the Agogo FPSO — will ensure sustained long-term production in Block 15/06, contributing significantly to Angola’s strategic objectives in the oil sector.
