Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Cabinda, Suzana de Abreu, defended this Friday the need to reinforce surveillance along the borders with neighboring countries to discourage cross-border crimes, particularly fuel smuggling and illegal immigration.
The governor made this appeal during the provincial event anticipating the 50th anniversary celebrations of the National Police, to be marked on February 28th.
She also acknowledged the arduous work that the corporation has been developing to improve traffic regulation, conflict prevention, and strengthen its proximity to communities.
For the governor, the anniversary represents the memory of a journey marked by sacrifice, courage, discipline, and selfless dedication of men and women who, over five decades, have undertaken the noble mission of defending legality, guaranteeing public order, and protecting citizens, as well as national heritage. The event highlighted the institution’s crucial role in consolidating the democratic rule of law, preserving peace, and building a more just, secure, and supportive society.
In turn, the provincial commander of the National Police in Cabinda, Commissioner Francisco Notícia Baptista, stated that despite the constraints faced in carrying out its activities, the corporation managed to maintain a low crime rate in 2025.
Throughout the period, criminal groups were dismantled for various crimes, such as voluntary homicides, vehicle thefts, rapes, burglaries, illegal gold and timber exploitation, smuggling of petroleum products, among others.
The event was attended by members of the Government, public and judicial magistrates, representatives of the armed forces, religious and traditional entities, and other guests.
The celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the National Police are taking place under the motto, “National Police of Angola, 50 years for the homeland, consolidating public security and serving with integrity”.
