Angolan President Highlights Investments in Transport Sector

Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço emphasized on Tuesday in Luanda, the importance of ongoing investments in the maritime, port, and civil aviation sectors, as well as the need for efficient infrastructure management.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the new Secretary of State for Civil Aviation, Maritime Affairs, and Ports, Adilson Gabriel Alves Catala, the Angolan head of state stressed that the country prioritizes transportation development, particularly the construction and rehabilitation of port infrastructure and strengthening the air sector.

President Lourenço emphasized the opening of the new international airport and plans to build new airports in Cabinda, Zaire, Cuando Cubango, and Moxico provinces.

He noted that most provincial capitals already have airports and that actions are underway to revitalize municipal aerodromes to strengthen internal connectivity.

The president also spoke of the need to strengthen the TAAG Angola Airlines fleet by acquiring new aircraft to transform Luanda into an important regional air transport hub.

In the maritime and port sector, the president emphasized the expansion of the national coastline and the strategic importance of ports. Some of these ports have benefited from rehabilitation and expansion projects, such as the Port of Luanda.

The president highlighted the Port of Lobito’s contribution to the development of the Lobito Corridor, which is considered essential for the national and regional economy.

He also announced the imminent inauguration of the Port of Caio in Cabinda Province, which is considered one of the largest deep-water ports on the African continent.

Increased Responsibility

João Lourenço emphasized the significant responsibilities of the position, stressing that national development hinges on the efficient operation of air and maritime transportation and port infrastructure. He expressed his hope that the newly appointed official’s work will contribute to the country’s economic and social growth and wished him success in his new role.
