National Police Calls for Forces’ Alignment with Electoral Tasks

Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial commander of the National Police in the province of Benguela, Commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos, urged on Monday (16) in this city, the readiness, deployment and alignment of forces, in the face of the upcoming electoral process.

Commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos was speaking during the presentation of the new provincial director of the Criminal Investigation Police (DIIP) and the awarding of ranks to 54 officers promoted to the positions of senior officers and sub-chiefs.

According to the commissioner, the country will hold its 6th general elections in 2027, where, as in previous years, the National Police will once again be called upon to ensure that the election takes place in an orderly and peaceful manner.

Aristófanes dos Santos emphasized that, for the success of this mission, it is necessary to do the “homework,” fine-tuning the machine in detail, so that everything is aligned during the period of the aforementioned event.

He further urged that, in the exercise of their duties, police officers must maintain a patriot and civic posture towards citizens, respecting their rights enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.

“These are fundamental rights that must be respected, under penalty of criminal, judicial and even administrative liability for those who do so,” he said.

He argued that police conduct should be based on the law, principles, norms, and professional ethics that characterize the corporation.

However, Aristófanes dos Santos congratulated the newly promoted officers, as they demonstrated commitment to the country and the development of the province of Benguela in particular.

He took the opportunity to warn that only disciplined officers will be promoted and have career progression.

“Discipline must be the basis of the national police, because we do not want a weak or disorganized police force, nor an excessive one,” he argued.

The DIIP new director, Chief Superintendent Tuenikalau José Victor, replaces Chief Superintendent Gabriel Kakiss, who will perform the same functions in the province of Huambo.
