Africa-Press – Angola. The Attorney General, Helder Pitta Groz, on Tuesday expressed optimism regarding the recovery of Angolan assets diverted abroad, whose cases are currently being processed.
The magistrate made the statement at the end of the launching of the Strategic Plan to Combat Crimes against Wildlife and the Environment in Angola, an initiative of the Attorney General’s Office aimed at reducing criminal activity in these areas.
“I cannot give an exact number, but we have money in Switzerland, which received about one billion US dollars, in Singapore, more than 500 million, in Bermuda, about 200 million,” said the prosecutor, who assured that there is a very large effort, both on the part of the Attorney General’s Office and the government, for the effective recovery of the assets.
According to the magistrate, these funds will eventually make it to Angola, so there is no need to worry that the money will be lost.
He said that solid and secure foundations have been created at the Attorney General’s Office to continue the ongoing process related to combating corruption.
Asset recovery in Angola, conducted by the National Asset Recovery Service (SENRA) of the Attorney General’s Office, totaled more than 19 billion US dollars in assets (real estate, companies, money) recovered domestically and abroad by the end of 2024.
This effort focuses on combating corruption and money laundering, with emphasis on the voluntary surrender and definitive seizures of assets.
