Africa-Press – Angola. British MPs have said they intend to attract investors to the agriculture, commerce, and tourism sectors in the Province of Bie, with the goal of boosting the national economy and ensuring the well-being of the population.

The intention was expressed Wednesday in the city of Cuito, capital of Bié province, by the MP Jessica Toale, member of the delegation from the United Kingdom (UK) Parliament, who is on a work visit in the central region of Angola.

During the meeting granted by the local governor, Celeste Adolso, the British parliamentarian emphasized that her country wishes to support crucial sectors such as agriculture, commerce, tourism, among others, in addition to the area related to demining, which has been monitored since 1994.

MP Alan Gemmelle stated to the local press that the UK already invests in the construction sector, as well as financing specific producers, mainly in the cultivation of bananas, avocados, and citrus fruits in this region of the country.

The governor of Bié praised the partnership with the UK, especially the national partnership, focused on various areas, particularly agriculture, commerce, industry, tourism, hospitality, and others.

The population residing in that region of Angola is estimated at over two million inhabitants and is mainly dedicated to the production of corn, beans, wheat, rice, sweet potatoes, Cassava, vegetables, different types of farming, hunting, honey production, and artisanal fishing.
