Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic of Botswana, Duma Boko, will make a working visit to Angola starting Thursday, as part of the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to the official program released, immediately after his arrival, the Tswana statesman will go to the Presidential Palace, where he will be received by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.

The agenda includes an official lunch before the President of Botswana leaves the Presidential Palace.

Duma Boko returns to his country on Friday morning.

Duma Boko’s trip to Angola is part of efforts to intensify political and economic cooperation between Luanda and Gaborone.

Since 2023, cooperation relations between Angola and Botswana have seen a strategic relaunch, focusing on the mining, agriculture and energy sectors.

From 2025 onwards, the two countries will intensify bilateral consultation to respond to the challenges of the global diamond market and reinforce regional integration.

In the field of diamonds, Botswana, among the world’s largest producers, shares experience with Angola in the areas of extraction, cutting and marketing.

In June 2025, the two States signed the Luanda Agreement, an instrument that aims to promote natural diamonds and consolidate cooperation in the sector.

In the oil and energy sector, there are initiatives to supply Angolan petroleum derivatives to Botswana, along with projects linked to the transmission of electrical energy and the development of renewable sources.

In agriculture and livestock, Angola expresses interest in the Tswanese experience in cattle repopulation, with emphasis on the import of cattle, semen and embryos, as well as cooperation in the production of animal vaccines.

In the environmental and tourism field, the two countries cooperate in the management of water resources and the promotion of ecotourism, based on common biodiversity, which includes important populations of elephants.

Among the main recent instruments, the Luanda Agreement stands out, signed in June 2025, which reinforces the promotion of natural diamonds with SADC countries.

The Bilateral Joint Commission remains a mechanism for monitoring the execution of agreements in sectors such as education, health and mining.

There are also ongoing initiatives to facilitate mobility between the two countries, with emphasis on the direct air connection between the capitals and the possible visa exemption, as well as the finalization of an agreement to avoid double taxation, with a view to encouraging mutual investments.

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, made a state visit to Gaborone, in 2023.
