AU Executive Council Reviews Proposal on Parliament Election

Africa-Press – Angola. Foreign minister Téte António on Thursday, in Luanda, participated in the Meeting of the Bureau of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), which analyzed the Draft Decision concerning the Elections of the Bureau of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).

According to a note from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the meeting was held virtually, from Addis Ababa, headquarters of the African Union (AU), and was chaired by the Foreign minister of the Republic of Burundi, Edouard Bizimana, in his capacity as acting chairman of the Executive Council of the continental organization.

The meeting was part of the regular actions of political coordination between the member states of the AU, with a view to strengthening continental governance and reinforcing African institutions.

The Bureau of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is the body responsible for the political and administrative leadership of this AU institution, ensuring the productivity of its work and the regular functioning of the Parliament.

The body is made up of a President and four Vice-Presidents. It is elected by the MP during the plenary session, with representation from the five regions of the African continent, thus guaranteeing geographical balance in its structure.

Regarding its operation, the Bureau is responsible for organizing plenary sessions, setting the agenda, overseeing administrative and financial management, and coordinating the activities of the committees and the Secretariat, as well as ensuring compliance with the Parliament’s internal rules and procedures.

As the core leadership of the PAP, the Bureau plays a decisive role in the institution’s strategic direction, influencing the definition of political priorities and contributing to strengthening the Parliament’s role within the framework of African integration.
