Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço on Saturday sent a message of congratulations to his counterpart from Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on the occasion of that country’s National Day.

In the message, the Angolan Head of State expresses, on behalf of the Executive and himself, warm congratulations to the Senegalese people and Government and highlights the historical significance of the event, which evokes the courage, determination and visionary spirit of those who led Senegal to the achievement of sovereignty and self-determination.

João Lourenço considers that, throughout its 66 years of Independence, Senegal has established itself as an example of political stability, promotion of peace and concord, as well as democratic consolidation and commitment to finding solutions that respond to citizens’ aspirations for development and well-being.

According to the Angolan statesman, these values dignify the African continent and reinforce Senegal’s position in the concert of nations.

On the occasion, President João Lourenço reiterates Angola’s firm will to deepen ties of friendship, solidarity and bilateral cooperation, with a view to the mutual interest of the two peoples and the realization of common ideals of progress and prosperity.

In the message, João Lourenço also wishes good health and personal success to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Angola and Senegal reinforce the bilateral strategic partnership, focusing on economic, technical, social and commercial cooperation, in a framework that aims to boost sustainable development and African regional integration.

Cooperation between the two countries covers key sectors such as oil, transport and trade, areas considered crucial for the growth of their respective economies and for strengthening the African presence in international markets.

In the energy field, Senegal expresses interest in the experience accumulated by Angola in oil exploration, at a time when that West African country is preparing to consolidate its hydrocarbons industry.

At the institutional level, the two States formalized legal instruments that regulate cooperation in areas such as justice, tourism and investment protection, with emphasis on the creation of a Bilateral Commission, under the terms of Presidential Decree No. 18/23.

Diplomatic relations are based on mutual respect and the convergence of positions in continental organizations, with emphasis on the African Union, where Angola and Senegal work in defense of African solutions to the continent’s challenges.

In the transport sector, there are contacts with a view to establishing direct air links between Luanda and Dakar, an initiative that could boost trade, tourism and the movement of citizens between the two countries.
