Africa-Press – Angola. The director of the Global Alliance support mechanism against Hunger and Poverty, Renato Godinho, on Tuesday in Washington, D.C, United States of America (USA), praised the progress achieved by Angola in the field of economic inclusion, in line with the best international practices.
Speaking to the Angolan press, at the end of a high-level meeting on “Country Action on Employment for the Poor”, framed within the Spring Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF), Renato Godinho stated that Angola has already expressed interest in cooperating with the Global Alliance to bring more technical and financial partners to the mechanism, accelerating the fight against poverty.
He assured the continued intervention of the Global Alliance to support the creation and implementation of public policies that can promote the empowerment of families.
In turn, the World Bank Group’s executive director for Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Philippines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago, Marcos Chiliatto, highlighted the partnership between Brazil and Angola in combating hunger and poverty, with agriculture as a central pillar, through the work of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (EMBRAPA).
Angola’s Finance minister, Vera Daves de Sousa, represented Angola at this high-level meeting, which also included representatives from Cameroon, Rwanda, Jordan, and Bangladesh.
On Tuesday, the Angolan delegation’s work agenda for the WB and IMF Spring Meetings included, among other things, meetings with the World Bank Regional Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Ndiamé Diop, and with technicians who monitor the infrastructure projects financed by the WB in Angola.
The WB and IMF spring meetings began Monday (13) and are scheduled to end on Saturday (18), under the motto “Building prosperity through policy”.
The event brings together central bank officials, finance ministers and development, parliament members, private sector executives, civil society representatives and academics.
