Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial governor of Bengo, Maria Antónia Nelumba, reaffirmed on Sunday (26) her government’s commitment to the progress, unity and well-being of all Bengo residents, and paid tribute to those who have contributed to the region’s growth.

In a message on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of Bengo Province, celebrated (April 26), the governor states that the date is a milestone in the Gregorian calendar and in the history of the resistance and strength of a people who, with work and hope, continue to build a better future, so the date should be celebrated with pride and emotion.

She highlighted that Bengo is a land of numerous natural resources, cultural richness, living traditions and a welcoming people who transform challenges into opportunities, who over the decades have witnessed important advances in economic, infrastructural and social development, the result of the joint effort of all.

“We have always defended the principle that no one walks alone when seeking to achieve noble goals”, the message reads, adding that the main concerns of the local executive have always been aligned with the well-being of the people, providing them with living conditions compatible with the most basic rights of human dignity.

In this sense, it mentions that two urban centers and a set of social housing units have been built throughout the province, with a view to improving housing for the population, and that the construction of five thousand social houses and the allocation of land for self-directed construction are planned for this year.

According to Maria Antónia Nelumba, another sector that has also received special attention throughout the province’s 46 years is health, which has a modern, third-level hospital with state-of-the-art equipment namely the “Reverend Guilherme Pereira Inglês” hospital.

In the education sector, there are already three higher education institutions, secondary schools of various specialties, and a progressive increase in schools and students in the three cycles of general education, with more than one hundred and fifty thousand students enrolled in the current academic year.

In the message, the governor also refers to the marked growth of large, medium, and small-scale economic enterprises located in the Barra do Dande Economic Zone, the Ocean Terminal, several Sino Ord factories, the aluminum factory, among others, which, in addition to their economic value, have created more than three thousand jobs.

She guaranteed that in the agricultural sector and in integrated economic development, events will continue to be held to stimulate private investment, taking into account the high potential that the province possesses. “We are fully aware that there is much to be done, especially in the area of supply and distribution of drinking water and electricity.

However, efforts have been made to ensure that the planned and already approved projects begin as soon as possible,” she stressed. In his message, he hopes that this anniversary will serve as inspiration for them to continue working with dedication, strengthening peace, promoting education, valuing culture, and creating opportunities for future generations.

The province of Bengo, created on April 26, 1980, has strong historical and cultural relevance. With approximately 31,371 square kilometers, it has a significant hydrographic network dominated by the Dande, Bengo, and Zenza rivers, essential for agriculture, fishing, and water supply to Luanda.

According to the 2024 Census, the province has approximately 716,335 inhabitants, distributed across 12 municipalities.
