2026 African Judo – Angola Wins Gold

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s Interclube athlete, Maria Segunda, won the gold medal at the 2026 African Senior Judo Championships, which ended on Sunday (26) in Nairobi, Kenya, the official website of the International Judo Federation (IJF) states.

Maria Segunda became champion in the -48 kg category, after defeating Signoline Kanyamuneza of Burundi in the final.

In addition to Segunda’s gold, other Angolans had outstanding performances at the continental event, which led the country to rank 4th in the overall medal count.

Angola won silver with the followings:

Edmilson Pedro (-66 kg) Interclube, who lost in the final to Algerian Kais Moudetere.

Leonardo Barros (-60 kg) Sporting de Luanda, who fell to Moroccan Ahmed Alaoui Cherifi.

Andreza António (-57 kg), Sporting de Luanda, defeated by Tunisian Mariem Jmour.

Zeferino Gabriel (-73 kg), Interclube, won the bronze medal by defeating South African Geronymo Sauer in the fight for the last place on the podium.

The African Championship had the participation of 35 countries in the individual competition and 11 in the mixed team event.

According to official IJF data, the “top five” was defined as follows: Algeria (1st place), Egypt (2nd), Tunisia (3rd), Angola (4th) and Morocco (5th).
