Africa-Press – Angola. The absence of certain families, especially in rural areas, made 100 percent coverage of the Pilot Census in July unfeasible, the Multisectoral Commission to Support the Carrying Out of the aforementioned operation in 2024 reported Tuesday.
This is because during the process, some families moved to farms, in addition to special cases of homeless people and others living in collective housing such as boarding schools, which made it difficult for census takers to complete coverage.
This information was provided to the press by the deputy general coordinator of the General Population and Housing Census/2024, Mário Caetano João, at the end of the 12th Review Meeting on the experimental census operation, with the members of the Commission.
According to the Minister of Economy and Planning, the coverage rate is still satisfactory, because more than two thirds of what was exactly expected were interviewed, corresponding to 87 percent of the population.
However, the government official explained, the census takers managed to mobilize and provided appropriate communication, keeping the Angolan family informed that the census will take place next year throughout the country.
According to the deputy general coordinator, the coverage rate in the seven targeted provinces and the 14 municipalities was 87.4 percent, the response rate was 96.4 percent, in urban areas it was around 95.2 percent and in rural areas around 97.5 percent.
“We had the prospect of carrying out a census of 41 thousand people, including households, collectives, individuals and special cases, and in the end we had a coverage rate of just 35 thousand”, highlighted Mário Caetano João.
The interlocutor said that the cartographic update is being carried out and at this point 92 sections have already been updated, corresponding to the same number of census takers, an activity in which the National Statistics Institute has the support of the Army.
Finally, the minister called on families to join the Census when asked by census takers.
This Tuesday’s meeting also included the participation of the 18 provincial governors, through digital platforms, bearing in mind that these managers are and should be the fundamental actors in this process.
