Africa-Press – Angola. The secretary general of the National Assembly, Pedro Agostinho de Neri, considers the holding of the 1st Joint Parliamentary Session of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific and the European Union (ACP-EU), in Angola, proof of the recognition of the organizational capacity and conditions that the country has to host events of a large international scale.

In recent statements, as part of the preparation of the ACP-EU parliamentary session, which takes place from the 19th to the 21st of this month in Luanda, he assured that the country was chosen to host the Joint Parliamentary Assembly, due to the good references in the recent organization of the 141st meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP).

“When we are chosen to host these events it is a recognition, but also a challenge that is placed on us and that we take on. It is very good for our country, because in addition to being visited, it also opens up to the world”, said Pedro de Neri, for whom these events “always add value”.

This type of events, he said, offers useful opportunities for the country, from the point of view of tourism and real knowledge of Angola, because he understands that sometimes there are people who talk about a certain subject about the country in a vacuum, “when they don’t understand actually reality.”

Pedro Agostinho de Neri also said that this openness to Angola to host international events is a sign that the country is growing and gathering infrastructure conditions and not only “to also place itself in the position of others at the level of the world”.

The secretary general of the National Assembly also highlighted that it is “very good” for the hotel network, taxis and operators linked to other areas.

“Holding these events in Angola gives us the maturity to, at any time, host acts of this scale. And we are fortunate in that aspect”, he rejoiced.

The fact that the country has successfully hosted the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), according to the secretary-general of the Angolan Parliament, allows it to face the new challenge with complete tranquility, especially because, in terms of size, the UIP Assembly is well greater and required greater commitment from the country.

“Some experiences and experiences are gathered, so that, in effect, this meeting does not have any type of problem”, he added, then revealing that, from the point of view of financial expenditure, expenses for Angola will be minimal.

“The investment made in holding the UIP Assembly supports all the demands that are now placed on us by the ACP Assembly”, he assured.

To confirm the technical and human conditions prepared by Angola, a team of members of the Technical Mission of the Secretariats of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP) and the European Union (EU), composed of Amath Faye and Marianne Lorentzen, was in Luanda.

The secretary general of the National Assembly clarified, at the time, that the meeting served to, among other matters, review the specifications, with a view to sharing responsibilities between the host country and the organizing entity. “We reviewed our installed capabilities, from a technical, technological and human point of view, and ended up concluding that the conditions are created to host the ACP-European Union meeting”, he said.

Pedro Agostinho de Neri also highlighted that some detailed aspects, addressed at the meeting, will still be discussed with the ACP Secretariat, but assured that, broadly speaking, there will be no reasons for the ACP-EU meeting not to take place. in Angola.
