Africa-Press – Angola. The president of UNITA, Adalberto da Costa Júnior, reaffirmed, this Thursday, in the city of Huambo, that his party’s priority is the holding of local elections in all municipalities in the country.
The party leader was speaking at the end of a courtesy visit to the Bishopric of the Archdiocese of Huambo, as part of the day commemorating the Day of the Deputy of this political formation, marked on Wednesday (8) under the motto “UNITA Parliamentary Group for local authorities at the service of the citizen.”
Adalberto da Costa Júnior said that UNITA’s reading is that Angola needs to establish local authorities as quickly as possible, as a fundamental factor for common development and participatory democracy.
He said it was necessary to prove to Angolans that there are conditions to make local power work where state administrations exist.
He explained that the UNITA Parliamentary Group is working in all municipalities in the province of Huambo, to listen to the population, at a time when the country’s challenges and difficulties are immense, due to the financial and economic crisis it is experiencing.
He added that this will better allow for the transfer of deliberations that help improve common well-being in the country to the National Assembly.
UNITA parliamentarians, who have been in Huambo province since Wednesday, also visited the Huambo General Hospital, the local Benguela Railway Station, among other social and economic enterprises.
For Friday, the program reserves the central ceremony in honor of UNITA Deputy Day, while for Saturday and Sunday participation in services and masses.
The date is celebrated in honor of parliamentarian Raúl Danda, who died on May 8, 2022, as well as the contribution of all deputies who, since the first Legislature, in 1992, until the present date, exercise the functions of representing, legislating and monitor with the aim of building a prosperous Angola.
