Adão de Almeida, former Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, was elected with 196 votes in favor, zero against, and no abstentions, during the 1st Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the IV Legislative Session of the V Legislature, convened for this purpose.

The process is in the scope of article 40, paragraph 1 of the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure, which establishes that the head of the legislative body is elected for each legislature and may be replaced during this term at the initiative of the party in which he was elected.

Adão de Almeida received the new symbols of the Angolan Parliament from the outgoing speaker, with emphasis on the ceremonial hammer.
